POSE-D
Providing Online guided Self-help for Eating disorders - in adults with Type 2 Diabetes
Funder: Diabetes UK
Principal Investigator: Dr Gemma Traviss-Turner
Phase 1 - Adapting the intervention
January to November 2021Aim: To adapt the existing evidence-based online guided self-help intervention so that is it suitable for use by people with Type 2 diabetes who binge eat.
Design: We will conduct co-design workshops to adapt the existing guided self-help intervention. Workshops will be held with people living with Type 2 diabetes and have experience of binge eating in the last 6 months. Other workshops will include healthcare professionals who work with people with Type 2 diabetes. These will be conducted remotely. Therefore the treatment package will be adapted iteratively through co-design (with patients and professionals) and qualitative methods.
PHASE 2 - PILOTING THE INTERVENTION
December 2021 to February 2023Aim: To test the feasibility and acceptability of the adapted intervention for people with Type 2 diabetes.
Design: We will conduct a case series with 30 people with Type 2 diabetes, who are experiencing binge eating. We will train and supervise a number of healthcare professionals to act as Guides and support patients remotely through the intervention. Patients will be recruited through GP practices and directly through weight management and diabetes services. The format and regularity of guidance will be led by findings from Phase 1. Finally, we will interview patients and healthcare professionals about their experiences of using the intervention.
